Ivysplash padded into camp, wincing every time her paw pad hit the ground. A large thorn had wedged itself into her paw, and her attempts to pull it out had only worsened it. It was in there pretty deep, that was for sure. Ivysplash looked down at her paw; it was gushing blood. Normally thorns didn't cause this much damage, and the fact that this was so bad terrified her. What fie something was really wrong? What if her paw was permenantly damaged? She shivered, trying to rid herself of the thoughts. Don't be ridiculous. A thorn isn't that bad!

Flutterpaw~
Flutterpaw padded out of the medicine cat den. Immeadiatly she saw Ivysplash. "What on earth happened?", Flutterpaw asked the tortoise-shell she-cat. She started helping Ivysplash to the medicine cat den to help her.

Ivysplash winced as she put pressure on ehr injured paw in attempt to get to the Medicine Cat's den. Thanks, she murmured to the helpful apprentice. She limped along before collapsing in a den. Hmmmm... Let's see... Ivysplash tried to recall the incident. Okay. I was hunting by myself when I scented quail. I knew a quail would be great for the clan, with new kits coming and all, so I hurried to stalk it. I guess I didn't really know I had walked through a dying thornbush until I felt a sharp pain in my paw. That's when I saw this. Ivysplash gestured to her bleeding paw. The large thorn looked foreboding and taunting as it sat, immobile, in her injured paw. Then I tried to pull it out. That's when it started bleeding really bad. I guess I did something I shouldn't have. Ivysplash looked down on Flutterpaw sheepishly.

Coming out from the small rock closet where she had managed small shelves to keep herbs, Juniperfeather was surprised to see her apprentice and fellow warrior limping into her den. Watching her apprentice handle the situation, she was pleased to see the lack of mindless panic. Many other cats she had seen couldn't handle blood. Retreating back to the supply closet, Juniperfeather tentatively selected Marigold leaves. Although they were used for infected wounds, she decided to add them to the pile, just in case. Adding to the pile, she grabbed chervil leaves, two poppy seeds and a small wad of cobwebs. Deciding that her leaf was full enough, she carefully held it between her teeth, making sure to not spill the seeds.
Twisting out of the sub-cave, Juniperfeather picked her way over to the pair, setting her prize down. Instructing Ivysplash to sit on the moss beds that had been prepared for patients, Juniperfeather sorted out the herbs that she had brought. Examining the wound, she found that a thorn had been deeply lodged into the pad of her foot. Wincing, Juniperfeather decided to pull the thorn first before applying cobwebs. The cobwebs would just push the thorn back further. Glancing up at Ivysplash, she murmured a small warning before locking her teeth around it. Waiting a moment, she prepared herself, and tugged, loosening it some. Not wanting her patient to be in too much discomfort, she grabbed a poppyseed and presented it to Ivysplash. Turning to her apprentice, she wondered aloud if Flutterpaw might want to try pulling it out.

Flutterpaw~
"Sure!", Flutterpaw mewed excitedly, "How do I do it? I don't want to hurt her." Flutterpaw looked at Ivysplash's pained expression. Then she looked back at Juniperfeather. While waiting for her mentor's reply, she carefully examined the wound.

Juniperfeather's patient eyes rested on her apprentice for a second before answering, "You'll want to lock your teeth around it. If you hesitate, or let go even for a second, you may lose the thorn and it will go deeper. Don't push, but ease it out gently. If you can't handle the taste of blood for too long, then prepare yourself in such cases with a piece of wet moss. "
Stepping back, her eyes glowed when she thought of the eagerness of Flutterpaw. She was glad to have such an apprentice, her nights here had slowly become lonely, and she had become to grow bored of her duty.

Flutterpaw~
Flutterpaw nodded and shoved a piece of wet moss in her mouth. She carefully locked her teeth around the thorn and pulled gently. Flutterpaw wiggled it back and forth ever so slightly and fell backwards a little bit. She did it! "I did it! I pulled the thorn out!", Flutterpaw meowed to the she-cats. I did it! I finally helped someone!, Flutterpaw thought to herself excitedly. She looked at Ivysplash then to her mentor.

Ivysplash winced as the two medicine cats fussed over her paw. Thank goodness that they were here. Ivysplash let out a small whimper as the thorn was pulled out of her paw. It hurt insanely, but she tried not to make a big deal about it. The calico she-cat let out a sigh of relief as the she-cat began applying something to her paw. Thanks so much!

Flutterpaw~
"Of course!", Flutterpaw meowed to Ivysplash. She was glad to help. Flutterpaw chewed up some marigold and spit it onto the wound. She gently pushed cobwebs onto the cut on Ivysplash's pad. She gave Ivysplash a few more poppyseeds. Then Flutterpaw led the she-cat to the nests that had been prepared for the patients. The apprentice made Ivysplash lay down on one and rest. Then she went to Juniperfeather. "Did I do well?", the young she-cat asked her mentor.

Tail flicking in pride, Juniperfeather nodded at her apprentice. Deciding to dole out a pop-quiz, she asked, "If we had no marigold, what would be a good replacement for a wound such as that one?" She felt unsure of herself for a moment. She hadn't had much time to train her, and felt guilty. Thinking of what had to be done tomorrow, she added training to that list. Deciding that they would train at sunhigh, she would take Flutterpaw out to find more herbs, and maybe even catch prey if it stumbled in their path.

Flutterpaw~
Flutterpaw was pleased that her mentor was happy with her work. She was surprised for a moment when Juniperfeather gave her a popquiz, but she then came to her senses. Immeadiatly she blurted, "Burdock! I-i mean, burdock?" Then she looked at Juniperfeather.
{ Sorry so short. Writer's block }
